1. Who we are
Wellknown (“Wellknown,” “we,” “us”) is a software product that matches founders to journalists covering their space and drafts personalized pitch emails for them to send. This policy describes what information we collect when you use the service at wellknown.vercel.app, how we use it, and your rights over it.
2. What we collect
When you sign up and use Wellknown, we collect:
- Account data: your email address and authentication credentials, handled by our auth provider (Supabase).
- Company and story data: the website URL, LinkedIn URL, and answers you provide during onboarding, plus any story angles, reporter matches, and pitch drafts generated on your behalf.
- Usage metadata: timestamps, plan tier, match counts, pitch counts, and which reporters you viewed.
- Payment data: billing information is collected and stored by Stripe. We store a Stripe customer ID and subscription status only; we never see or store full card numbers.
3. What we do with it
We use your data to:
- Scrape your company URL (via Firecrawl) and optional LinkedIn URL (via Proxycurl) to build your startup profile.
- Generate story angles and pitch drafts using large language models (Anthropic Claude). Prompts include the data you've entered and the reporter's public byline info.
- Match you to reporters from our internal database using a keyword + beat algorithm.
- Look up and verify reporter email addresses via Hunter.io.
- Bill you for paid plans via Stripe.
- Send you service-related emails (sign-up confirmations, billing receipts, plan changes).
4. Third-party services we share data with
We use the following providers. Each has their own privacy policy governing what they do with the data we send them:
- Supabase (authentication, database hosting)
- Vercel (application hosting)
- Stripe (payments)
- Anthropic (LLM inference for angles and pitches)
- Hunter.io (reporter email lookup)
- Firecrawl (website scraping)
- Proxycurl (LinkedIn scraping, optional)
- Resend (outbound email delivery, optional)
We do not sell your data. We do not share it with advertisers.
5. Cookies and tracking
We use strictly necessary cookies to keep you signed in. We do not use advertising cookies. We do not use third-party analytics that track you across other sites.
6. Your rights
You can access, correct, export, or delete your data at any time by emailing us at privacy@wellknown.app. Depending on where you live (for example, the EU/EEA, UK, or California) you may have additional rights under the GDPR, UK GDPR, or CCPA. We'll honor them.
You can delete your Wellknown account and all associated data at any time. When you do, we permanently remove your startup profile, angles, matches, pitches, and account record. Aggregate non-personal analytics may be retained.
7. Reporter data
Our reporter database is built from publicly available sources — RSS feeds, outlet staff pages, and public journalist directories. We store professional contact information (work email, public bylines, outlet). If you are a journalist and would like your information removed from our database, email privacy@wellknown.app and we will remove your record within seven business days.
8. Security
Data in transit is encrypted via HTTPS. Data at rest is stored in Supabase and encrypted at the database layer. Access is restricted to the Wellknown team members who need it to operate the service.
9. Children
Wellknown is not intended for anyone under 16. We do not knowingly collect data from children.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the product evolves. When we make material changes, we'll email you and post the updated version here with a new “Last updated” date.
